A born again Christian commits suicide. Is he or she still saved?
I must confess that of a truth, this question is really a difficult question, but I will employ all of my powers to give you an answer, which is consistent with the whole counsel of God. Suicide is not a good practice and I strongly oppose it, and I will never encourage anyone to consider it as an option. But on the other hand, some of our fellow brethren in the faith have unfortunately in the time of extreme weakness committed such act, but the question is this, is such people still saved or they lost their salvation as a result of what they did?
Many Christians are of the view, that a person expedites his way to hell when he or she commits suicide, but is this teaching in unison with the holy writ? Others also believe that a person who commits self murder or suicide is still saved and will be with the Lord Jesus in heaven throughout eternity, but is this assertion also true? Before we delve deeper into our subject matter for today, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to any grieving family out there who have lost their loved one(s) due to suicide. May the God of all comfort, comfort your hearts and give you strength to stand firm in this difficult moments of your life. I beseech you to take your time and carefully read through this article, because I believe it will be a blessing to you.
A person who commits suicide is still forgiven
Suicide is not a sin which can send a born again christian to hell, or cause him to be eternally separated from God at death. No sin is powerful enough to sever the eternal relationship which exists between a born again christian and God. When a born again christian during the time of weakness commits suicide, that person is still forgiven of that sin, even without confession and repentance. The efficacious blood of Christ cleanses us from our past, present and future sins. If his sin still remains unforgiven as certain people argue, then it means that the sin of suicide is much more powerful than the blood of Christ, but that is not the case, the sin of suicide cannot stand in competition with the grace of God which is fully manifested towards us in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The truth is that God will by no means impute the sin of suicide into that person's account, for it is written: "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered. "Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account (Romans 4: 7-8). Any born again christian who has committed suicide, the person's sin is not only forgiven, but God doesn't even remember it anymore: "For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more (Hebrews 8: 12). Suicide is not an unforgivable sin, rather it is a forgivable sin. A Christian who has committed this act of suicide is forgiven of that sin and will stand before the Lord blameless, because all his sins are forgiven in Christ Jesus.
There is no condemnation for born again Christian's who have committed suicide
Born again Christian's who have committed suicide, many people think they will be judged and be consigned to eternal damnation for it. Such reasoning is contrary to what the bible teaches respecting the nature of our salvation. Those Christian's who have committed such sin will never be brought to condemnation for it, because Jesus has already bore their punishment in himself for them. Jesus has paid in full the penalty for all the sins they have committed, including the sin of suicide. What saith the scriptures: Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8: 1).
And in another place, it is written: Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life (Romans 5: 9-10). Born again Christian's who have committed suicide will never be brought to condemnation, because they are reconciled to God and having been reconciled they shall be saved from the wrath of God through him. The salvation of Christians who have committed suicide is eternally secure. If an unbeliever dies without any personal faith in Jesus Christ, such a person with the authority of God's word will perish forever. He or she will perish not because of the sin of suicide, but because the person rejected the free gift of salvation to be received through faith in Jesus Christ. But the born again christian who killed him or herself is still saved by virtue of his relationship with Jesus.
Suicide cannot even separate him or her from the love of God in Christ Jesus
We are said to be saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by works of righteousness. God saved us to himself, and will continue to keep us safe and secure in our salvation. God's word reassures us of God's love for us, for it is written: Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8: 35-39). The person who commits suicide, not even death nor any created thing can separate him from the love of God which is fully revealed in Christ Jesus.
Seek immediate Help
There are lots of factors which can make a person or even a Christian to commit suicide. Peradventure, if you are battling with suicidal thoughts, please I beseech you by the mercies of God to seek immediate help from state institutions responsible for handling such cases, or you can visit a medical facility closer to you. Also confide in trusted Christian brethren and I believe they will be a great help to you. They will counsel you with God's word and also offer prayers for you. We must desist from suicide, but in the case where the believer has already committed the act, then we need to assuage ourselves with this truth, that such a person is with the Lord beholding the glory of his presence. God bless you
